Dr Laura Shemilt leads the Advanced Research Computing Group at the Franklin. It is formed of Research Software Engineers to meet the big data, infrastructure and software challenges of The Franklin. Her team design and implement relevant and performant data and compute solutions that support scientific breakthroughs. She has held senior data scientist positions in industry and academia. Her PhD work involved X-Ray techniques applied to analyse the 3D-structure of the metaphase chromosome. In this project she will provide advice and guidance on the computational elements of the work (image analysis, machine learning, data storage).
