Aziz is an Assistant Professor of Computational Biology at MBZUAI, leading the Computational Biology and Cancer Regulatory Genomics (CBCRG) Lab in Abu Dhabi (https://khanlab.bio/). He holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from Tsinghua University and completed his postdoc at NCMM, University of Oslo. His research integrates computational biology, genomics, epigenomics, and machine learning to study gene regulation in diseases like cancer. Previously, he was a senior research scientist at Stanford Cancer Institute, where he built infrastructure for large-scale cancer multi-omics and contributed to HTAN and MetNet. Aziz was also an instructor and taught courses on reproducible science at Stanford. He is a strong advocate of open and reproducible science and has developed widely used tools including JASPAR, Intervene, dbSUPER, and UniBind. He is a Certified Carpentries Instructor and former eLife/ASAPbio Ambassador promoting open science and preprints.
