Sergio Pantano earned his Physics degree from the University of San Luis, Argentina, before pursuing graduate studies at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Italy, where he shifted his focus to computational biology and completed his Master's and Ph.D. in 2001. He began his independent research career in 2004 at the Venetian Institute for Molecular Medicine in Padua, and in 2007 relocated to the Pasteur Institute of Montevideo, where he now directs the Biomolecular Simulations group. Throughout his career, Dr. Pantano has specialized in applying structural bioinformatics and simulation techniques to investigate molecular systems with biomedical significance. His research group was among the first in South America to develop coarse-grained models for molecular dynamics simulations of biological systems. He is the main developer of the SIRAH force field for multiscale simulations. His current work focuses on using multiscale simulation approaches to understand the stabilizing forces in viral particles.
