Sobre

Alessandra Carbone is Professor of Computer Science at Sorbonne University. Since 2003, she has led the Analytical Genomics team and, from 2009 to 2026, the Department of Computational, Quantitative, and Synthetic Biology, Sorbonne-CNRS. Her research focuses on the fundamental mechanisms of cellular function and the evolution of biological systems, through an interdisciplinary approach combining statistics, combinatorics, optimization, and AI. Her team develops computational approaches to analyze genomes and proteins, from sequences to structures, with the goal of deciphering the principles governing the evolution and co-evolution of molecular structures.
A recipient of the Joliot-Curie Prize in 2010, awarded by the French Ministry of Research and the EADS Foundation, she also received the Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize from the French Academy of Sciences in 2012 for her work in integrative biology. She was a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France from 2013 to 2018 and again from 2023 to 2028.
