Prof. Yun-Gui Yang is currently the Director of the China National Center for Bioinformation / Beijing Institute of Genomics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Tan Jiazhen Life Science Innovation Award, and the Second Prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award in Natural Science (2024). His work was selected among the "Top 10 Advances in Life Sciences Research in China (2017)." He has been recognized as the "Highly Cited Researchers" (2021–2025) by Clarivate, the "China Highly Cited Scholar" (2021–2025) by Elsevier, and has been listed on the "Top 2% Scientist" list (2025) by the Stanford University. Prof. Yang has published 81 papers as corresponding (or co-corresponding) author in journals such as Nature, Cell, Nature Cell Biology, and Cell Research, with over 18,000 Web of Science citations (non-self).
His research focuses on Bioinformatics, Big data, and Epitranscriptomics. He has pioneered the development of proprietary high-throughput sequencing technologies for RNA methylation and identified key regulatory proteins, demonstrating the dynamic reversibility of RNA modifications. He systematically elucidated their regulatory mechanisms in mRNA splicing, nuclear export, stability, and translation, as well as their critical roles in stem cell differentiation, development, and disease pathogenesis. These achievements have fundamentally advanced the field of RNA methylation epitranscriptomics, enriched the transcriptional regulatory layer of the central dogma, and provided important theoretical foundations and novel strategies for biomedical research and disease prevention.
